I’ve always loved the cover of this album because it’s the happiest dog in the world getting petted. This is a relatively obscure release, even on Ghostly, but I fell for it hard and Side B has a lot to like, including the final track Trustfalls, which I picked. Lots to like on this one, top to bottom.

This project is a favorite, one melding Aesop rock and Rob Sonic’s talents with DJ Big Wiz on the ones and twos. It’s so absurd, but it works really good. I listened to Side C, which is the last side of the double LP. Side D is blank…I picked Holy Driver because it just felt the best cut on that side, which is the weakest. Dive into A/B for suuure

As a fourth album, well, this was a trip. Completely unlike their previous efforts, well, it’s complicated but yields many very interesting tracks and it’s emotional without being so. damned. loud. Side D doesn’t hold back, and Kimdracula is my pick. So Deftones, even in this interstitial era.

Side 14 was an interesting pick. I’ve been a fan of MBD since 2007 and have seen them many times during their heavy touring years. This is their first album that really defined the tone and attitude of the group, which has evolved confidently from here. Side A has some fan favorites, and Until Moral Improves the Beatings Will Continue stamps hard on that. It encompasses all of the Americana you can stuff into a track.

I didn’t appreciate The Thompson Twins as a kid in the 80s listening to New Wave because, well, they were very popular. This album is stunningly good when listening to it now, with Side B having fewer radio tracks. Who Can Stop the Rain is my favorite of that side, and it just holds up to even the hits. This is a superb album

This was a neat surprise when I heard it first as a radio promo. Neat Australian duo with lush vocals and interesting beats. I don’t buy a lot of music new, but this deserved my money and By Your Side was my pick on Side C of this release. I really love it’s broken beat stutter and the refrains. I’ve had many people ask about this one in the past.

I’d never listened to this album, and I still haven’t. Side B was a pick because I didn’t really recognize the cuts, but picked Sean Flynn because it seemed the most like what I _wanted_ to hear. Side A has tracks you’ve heard, but not B. Given to me by someone who had a punk collection, I wasn’t going to turn it down, but my time with it has me even more interested in The Clash and their influences. Side B is very interesting.

What’s not to enjoy with these two on the keys and reed? I wish this release had, oh, another 6 tracks to enjoy but alas Trinkle, Tinkle was my pick of the Side A, which only had three to choose from. That track really felt the best work on the side between the two in my session.

When the trio decided to go in yet another direction for this, their third album, they ditched the bombast of Licensed to Ill and the Dust Brothers influence of Paul’s Boutique for the path less travelled. “Hey, we should learn how to play instruments and make a band record” said almost no one ever. This is a dandy of an album and Something’s Gotta Give was my pick from Side B. Really a great record

A neat, limited release on vinyl, this was DJ Shadow showing his work, so to speak. Endtroducing blew the minds of most who listened to it, and this is the prelude of tracks that paved the way for that groundbreaking instrumental milestone. Lesson 5 is probably a homage to the work of Steinski’s look at the roots of hip-hop to that point. Brave!
